I began to recognize how investing with a goal-oriented approach could make a dramatic impact in one’s financial situation when my mom was laid off in her early 60s. She told her financial advisor she just wanted to retire early and enjoy her grandkids, to which her financial advisor said, “Go ahead.” She had saved adequately and invested intelligently, based on sound advice from her financial advisor, and was able to do exactly that.
In 2005, I returned to school and earned my BA in management. I was ready for a new career but didn't know exactly what I should do. When a good friend suggested I go into financial services, I realized that I could help people achieve their financial goals in much the same way my mom’s financial advisor had helped her.
I chose Edward Jones based on their branch office model and client-focused, goals-based approach. The process we use at Edward Jones, focusing on the goal and what is most important to the client, helps filter out some of the confusion and the noise and helps clients maintain a long-term focus. When clients comprehend the 'why' behind the investments and how they work in conjunction over the long term, they are less likely to be reactionary during times of volatility.
When I am not helping my clients with what is most important to them, I enjoy spending time with my wife, two grown children and two Siberian huskies. I enjoy camping, skiing and playing golf when time permits. I also try to stay active in my community through various volunteer activities in church and my local Rotary club.
