From the time I was in college, I wanted to be a "stockbroker". I graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in finance. I relocated to New York City in 1986 and worked as a research analyst with Standard & Poor's for about five years.
While working for Standard & Poor's, I ran across an article in the Wall Street Journal about Edward Jones. The article touched on the history and culture of the firm and how it was looking to grow in geographic areas outside the Midwest, where the firm was founded. At the time, my wife, Lorna, and I were newlyweds living in Montclair, New Jersey. We were recently married in the charming New England town of Simsbury, CT. While planning our wedding, we both fell in love with the town.
We took a leap of faith in the summer of 1991 when I accepted an offer from Edward Jones to open up the third office for the firm in the state of CT. We opened the branch in Simsbury over Thanksgiving weekend in 1991. I have been with the firm now for about 28 years. We now have over 100 Edward Jones offices in CT.
We ended up purchasing a house within walking distance to the office and still live there. My wife and I have three daughters.
It was a tremendous experience literally going door to door in a town getting to know the residents. It was humbling but rewarding. I am so thankful that I chose Simsbury as I have developed so many friendships and have built a very loyal clientele of wonderful people.
I have been active over the years in town with the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce and our local church. I enjoy playing golf, skiing and rooting for the Oregon Ducks.
I earned my CFP® designation in 1989 and have attended the firm's Advisory Leaders Conference every year since it started recognizing top advisors with the firm back in 2010.
