My family has been connected to Edward Jones for nearly four decades. My grandfathers both invested with Edward Jones in Idaho. My grandfather’s brother would go to the local Edward Jones office early every morning and have a cup of coffee while he read the office's copy of the Wall Street Journal. So, it seemed natural to me in 2002, when looking for a job in the financial services industry, to look at Edward Jones. But it was the relationship the advisor had with my farmer grandfathers that was the real catalyst in my choosing Edward Jones.
My maternal grandfather taught me many fundamentals of investing that I’ve carried with me through the years. Perhaps his most valuable lesson was when he explained that it was just as critical to communicate and translate financial information to clients as it was to possess that information.
This was also a lesson I learned from many personal experiences with doctors. The doctors who I had the best relationships with weren’t just those who had the right answers, but those who listened to my concerns, understood my needs and translated specialized medical terms into useful strategies. My best doctors spent time knowing me and my family.
So, each day I try to remember the example of my grandfather and my doctors. I try to understand the concerns of my clients. I try to figure out a way to help them achieve their goals, but also to communicate that information in a way that is easy to understand and helpful to them in making informed decisions. I seek everyday ways to make complicated things simple for my clients and think it is critical they have the right information at the right time to make informed decisions for their families.
