Sitting in a doctor's office a week shy of my dad's 67th birthday, my parents were told that my dad had between two weeks to a year to live, but could have an aneurism at any moment. Six months prior to that prognosis, he had let a $250,000 life insurance policy lapse. Besides the grief of impending death, they felt regret, anger and worry about finances.

No one wakes up in the morning and says, "I'm going to make a bad financial decision today." But we all do it.

We can only know so much. My parents couldn't have known that my dad would be diagnosed with cancer so soon after letting his insurance lapse. Perhaps if they'd had a better relationship with a financial professional to help them think through critical decisions, they would have had a different feeling as they sat in the doctor's office.

Later, it was a financial professional who helped my parents assess their situation, reviving confidence that my mother would be financially sound after my dad's passing. With that confidence, my dad was able to pass in peace, my mom was able to move forward in her life, and my siblings and I could relax.

This experience drove me to become a financial advisor, and it influences what we aim to create for our clients. Our goal is to help our clients develop confidence in their financial decisions and their plans for the future.

Our branch has breadth of knowledge and experience in financial services and beyond. With 20 years' service as a teacher and experiential educator, I was asked to join Edward Jones in 2017 and have earned the AAMS® designation from the College for Financial Planning. Anne Johnson, the office administrator, brings 10 years of professional skill to deeply serve our clients' needs with personal detail.
