My passion in financial services stems from a difficult period in my family history and it inspires me to help my clients with their financial future. I am of Japanese American ancestry, and during World War II, both sides of my family were forced into internment camps. We lost our freedom, sense of belonging, property and the humble financial wealth of a chicken farming family. My mom’s grandfather, who could have viewed this situation negatively, joined the US Army during WWII and served his country. His optimism and moral compass are something I try to emulate.
When my grandparents raised my mom, they taught her to always be prepared, invest wisely and plan for any uncertainty that could emerge. That life lesson stuck with her and led my mom to have a successful career with Edward Jones as one of the first financial advisors in Alameda. In 2010, I followed in my mom’s footsteps, becoming a financial advisor for Edward Jones, taking over her Alameda office. My family’s history and sacrifices helped shape my core values as a financial advisor.
A 2001 graduate of the University of Hawaii, I hold a master’s degree in ecological anthropology with a graduate certificate in business negotiations. This degree influenced my passion on values and ethics on socially responsible investing. In 2015, I became a limited partner of Edward Jones and received the CFP® professional certification in 2015.
My spouse, Beth, and I have two daughters – Lauren and Evelyn, who are both strong-willed and in elementary school. In my spare time, I enjoy coaching my daughters' soccer and softball teams, surfing, raising livestock and growing an organic garden. I am an active member of the Surfrider Foundation, the Japanese American Citizens League and Earthjustice. My wife is very passionate in supporting the LGBTQ community.
