Of all the jobs and industries out there, why did I choose to become a financial advisor? I often get asked this after a decade-long career in the Army. It's a fair question – after all, the two career fields don't really align. I became a financial advisor because I wasn't taught about investments, life insurance, taxes, financial strategies, estate planning or retirement saving as a youth. Growing up in a single-parent household in inner-city Indianapolis, Indiana, I was lucky to get an allowance. Back then, I didn't know what a CPA was, or an estate attorney, or even a financial advisor for that matter. Investments were for the wealthy... Or so I assumed.

Fast forward to my life in the military as a young adult. I had to get smart on finances. I taught myself a lot about money and financial literacy. I researched everything related to finances. I'm grateful God opened doors for me that I otherwise wouldn't have knocked on. When I married a Jefferson City, Missouri native living in Hawaii, I thought a long Army career was in my future. However, I found my next calling through my mentor.

Enter Edward Jones. I was presented with an opportunity to make a great impact on others' lives. I applied, was trained and I left active duty for the Army Reserve to begin helping others address their own financial concerns. Shortly after, my small family moved to my wife's hometown, and I'm happy to call Jefferson City home.

What I enjoy the most as a financial advisor is helping others strategize. My branch team makes relationships a priority. We like to hear others' stories and help to bridge their past to their best financial future. My areas of focus are in estate considerations, tax-sensitive investing, retirement strategizing and business retirement plans. I also have experience working with state and federal employees, and I'm a great partner for young families.

When I'm not in the office supporting my clients' financial needs, you can probably find me playing with my two sons, fishing, shooting or enjoying a cold American beverage. I'm also a history buff.

My wife and biggest supporter, Cory, works as a Doctor of Audiology, serving those with hearing impairments in the Jefferson City community.

Cory and I are involved in our local Catholic Church and we're grateful to be able to serve others' needs through charity and volunteer work here in Missouri.
