    Edward Jones Principal Scott Thoma co-chairs the firm’s Investment Policy Committee and is responsible for Client Needs Research, the team that develops and communicates advice and guidance for client needs, including retirement, education, preparing for the unexpected and leaving a legacy.

    Scott began his Edward Jones career in May 2000 and for more than six years served as the firm's lead medical device analyst and as a market strategist, focusing on issues for retired investors.

    In 2008, Scott was asked to serve as director of investment advice for the firm’s advisory programs, a position he held until 2011, when he assumed his current responsibilities. Scott was named an Edward Jones principal in 2012.

    Scott graduated summa cum laude from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, with an emphasis in finance. He earned a master’s degree in economics and finance from the same university. Scott has served as an instructor of corporate finance and banking/risk management at his alma mater and he has completed the Securities Industry Institute program at the Wharton School of Business.

    He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of St. Louis. Scott has also earned the CFP® and CPWA® professional certifications.

    Scott was a guest on CNBC’s "Squawk on the Street", PBS’ Nightly Business Report and Bloomberg and has been quoted in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger and the Boston Globe.

    He and his wife, Karen, have three children: Samuel, Lillian and Benjamin.
